Emergency Services - Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) Coomera
(QAS) Coomera has been built to increase the capacity for emergency call takers and dispatchers and to provide a Business Continuity Planning site for the Brisbane Operations Centre.
Task/Scope/Problem Statement
Lightning protection is crucial for emergency services because it ensures the safety and functionality of critical infrastructure during extreme weather events. Emergency facilities, such as ambulance stations, rely heavily on uninterrupted power and communication systems to respond effectively to crises. A lightning strike can cause power outages, damage sensitive equipment, and disrupt operations, potentially putting lives at risk.
Solution
QPP completed installation in 2025 of a Conventional Lightning Protection System (LPS) over two levels, to Australian Standards - AS 1768: 2021. A further 2 independent LPS Masts were installed to protect the communications equipment housed on the roof of the building from potential Lightning Strikes.
Result
All metal protrusions are bonded into the Air Terminal Network and the bonds between the roof structure and down conductors are all tested for continuity. A compliance certificate was issued and periodic inspections and testing recommended.
