Challenges Faced by Longreach, Outback Queensland

QPP National pride ourselves on supporting and servicing regional and remote areas. Living in such a remote area such as Longreach comes with a unique set of challenges. One of the most significant challenges for the residents of Longreach is the considerable distance to essential resources like healthcare. This leads to difficulties in accessing regular medical care, especially for urgent cases.

Task/Scope/Problem Statement

The isolation of Longreach can pose several dangers, particularly for vulnerable populations, such as the elderly or families with small children. Emergency services are often far away, which can create life-threatening situations. Moreover, the remote environment increases risks associated with disasters, such as storms, floods or bushfires, where timely assistance may not be readily available.

Solution

Installing an Air Termination System (ATS) is the first line of defence against lightning strikes. Designed to increase the capture range of a lightning strike, ensuring that it intercepts the strike safely before it reaches sensitive parts of the building. Connecting the ATS to the down conductor provides a pathway that directs the electrical energy from the strike safely into the ground.

Result

Longreach exemplifies the challenges faced by many remote communities in Australia. QPPN help lighten the burden by installing and servicing Lightning Protection Systems on hospitals and health care facilities in the Outback. By working together, the residents of Longreach can foster a safer and more prosperous living environment.
