Client/Project
Westrex – Jackson Waste Processing and Treatment Facility
Task/Scope/Problem Statement
Located in the Surat Basin, the Waste Processing & Treatment Facility services various waste streams predominately from Coal Seam Gas production.
makes managing risks from electrical storms or direct lightning strikes crucial.
Coal Seam Gas (CSG) production plants, like other industrial facilities, require lightning protection systems to mitigate the risks posed by lightning strikes, which can cause fires, explosions, and damage to equipment. Finding a solution that would provide the coverage that was required, proved complicated.
Solution
The Air Termination System (ATS) consists of a vertical air terminal; a Stormaster 60 Early Stream Emission (ESE) mounted on a 10m galvanized pole and uses the pole as the down conductor. The Down Conductor/pole is connected to the Foundation cage/footings using 4 x M24 Bolts with non-shrink grout.
This system was chosen for its ability to effectively mitigate lightning risk and comply with Internation Standard NF C 17-102 and AS 1768-2021.
Result
After installation of an Early Streamer Emission (ESE) air termination system, Westrex – Jackson Waste & Treatment Facility now has effective measure for mitigating lightning-related risks.
